As you maybe know, our "the Aldegarde website" was hacked and almost all information damaged.
We are now rebuilding the site and add some more information (we are busy with information about the 1792-1795 and 1795-1806 -batavian republic period) but this will need some time.
Please take a look at the new site www.aldegarde.nl (you notice that you will be redirected to weebly ).
We also will put under the section Wargaming of the Alde Garde site, some older information of the Ca-Ira blog and will use Ca-ira only to publish new info.
In some weeks you will see the result.
Also seperate pages of this blog will give info about books and figures of the French Revolution period.
We will gladly give more info about the site and its content so please let me know

Siege of Willemstad 1793
The look of a French battery at the siege of Willemstad, netherlands, 1793.
Which is an interesting picture as it shows various methods to bombard a city.
On the right the big bombards/houwitzers with their caracteristic fused bombs. In the middle "normal" siege guns which are probably using heated cannonballs as on the left cannonballs are heated to cause fire in the city.
For me it was new, that this last method was used against cities. I thought they were only used for shore batteries against ships.
A sortie against a French battery by the Dutch garrison.
This depicts the sortie on Friday, 15th march 1793 when in total 58 men (3 officers, two sergeants, 2 corporals, 6 artillery men and 45 men) attacked a French battery killing almost all French and made 3 siege guns unusable.
The troops came from the garrison battalions (1st Saksen-Gotha, batallion Bosc de la Calmette).
As the grenadiers of both battalions used bearskin the grenadiers in the back with (probably) mitres are portrayed wrong.
Book about the Dutch Army 1793-1810
Already some time ago, a book appeared on the market called "Dutch troops of the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars 1793-1810" by George Street and Karim van Overmeire.
Long overdue as Dutch troops fought from 1793 up to 1795 against French troops; from 1795 onwards were allied to the French (even becomming part of the French Empire in 1810) and after 1813 were fighting again against France.
Is there new material in the book? Well yes, when you haven't acces to (mostly) Dutch books of this period and for these, imho the book is a good addition to any library about this period.
For me was it a surprise that a lot of material of the earlier period (1793-1795) was taken from our "Alde Garde" website; as is is free information this is fine, a simple mail that they intend to do that I had appreciated more.
But, as I said before, get the book

Latest 25mm additons by Trent
On the north Star site appeared three new packs of Trent figures. A new part of the French Revolutionary range called "French Internal Range" and usable for the Vendee or Chouan rebellion and maybe for more uprisings in the aerlier period of the FR.
Possible also usable for the Irish 1798 period?
Imho, these are looking nice.
Hopefully this will lead for more figures of the earlier 1792-1795 period (hint, hint)

Het Staatse Leger part IX; at last
As some of you maybe know, it was intended that the historie of the Dutch army (or better The army of the Republic of the United Provinces) from its beginning up to 1795 was put in writing in a collection of books called "Het Staatse Leger".
Started in 1910, up to 1950 8 parts were ready (of which nr VIII consisted of 3 books) but the last period, 1713 up to 1795, was never finished.
But this last part, of course titled "Het Staatse Leger nr IX" was indeed and at last, finished in 2012.
Following the historie of the Dutch army from 1713 up to 1795, it covers the War of the Austrian Succession, auxiliary corps to help the British in the mid 18th century, the end of the Scottish regiments in the Dutch army and of course the French Revolutionary War up to 1795.
It's a pity, that for this last part the book leans heavely on the 2 part book of F.H.A Sabron, "De oorlog van 1794-95 op het grondgebied van de Republiek der Vereenigde Nederlanden".
But, al in all, a great book which covers the last part of the army of the Republic so ending a period.
By the way, the 2 books of Sabron are downloadable from the web.

At last
Maybe You think, I have forgotten my blog Ca Ira.
Honestly, I haven't.
But work commitment and other things which happens in life just came around and prevented me to give enough attention to this blog but also the other " www.aldegarde.blogspot.com " and of course our website: www.aldegarde.nl .
So a fresh start, hopefully, with new info about the revolutionary period.
greetings
Jan
